Q: Where is the apartment?
A:
The apartment is located in Passy, at the Geneva end of the Chamonix valley. It's just an hour's drive from Geneva airport and about 25 minutes from Chamonix town.
Q: Is it self-catering?
A:
Yes. There is a large fridge with a freezer compartment and plenty of storage space for your wine and groceries. We can stock your kitchen with provisions on request. There are three supermarkets and numerous restaurants in the local area within a 20-minute drive.
Q: Is there a ski-bus?
A:
No - you need a car to drive to the various ski resorts, most of which are between 15 and 45 minutes drive. The upside is that you can get your ski boots off a lot sooner after your day's skiing and you don't have to wait around for your transport!
Q: How small is "small"?
A:
It's about the size of a two room hotel suite with the addition of a kitchen and bathroom.
Q: How many people can sleep in the apartment?
A:
There is a separate bedroom with a very comfortable double bed and a luxury double sofa-bed in the lounge which really is as good as a normal bed! Please be aware that the bathroom/WC is accessed through the bedroom, which has a full-length privacy curtain. Both beds are standard doubles and cannot be converted to twins.
Q: Can we book just for one night, and what happens if we need to cancel?
A:
Yes, you can stay one night or as long as you like - we're very flexible! We understand that plans change so we don't charge cancellation fees (see the small print on our
rates and availability
page). All we ask is that you give us as much notice as possible.
Q: Can we pay you when we arrive?
A:
Yes, you can pay by cash on arrival and we accept all currencies. Please note that we can only take credit cards via
Paypal
and not directly. The security deposit is payable in cash only - for more details please refer to the small print on our
rates and availability
page.
Q: Are pets/smoking allowed
A:
Sorry, no pets and no smoking in the apartment for health and safety reasons (not to mention nasty niffs!).
Q: What's the best way to get there?
A:
You can drive (it's about 8 hours non-stop from Calais), or take a flight from many regional airports (schedules and routes change according to the season). Geneva airport is the best one to fly to (1 hour's drive), although you also have the choice of Annecy (1 hour) and Lyon (2 hours).
Rail links can get you as far as Le Fayet (20 minutes). It is possible to get a coach transfer from the airport and then a taxi to the apartment, but we strongly recommend that you hire a car at the airport/railway station. See the
links
page for details of transport companies.
If you bring your own car in winter, we recommend that you either fit winter tyres or have snow chains available, which are obligatory in most ski resorts. Check out the
Ski Club of Great Britain
website which gives some useful driving tips.
Q: Does the apartment have disabled access?
A:
There is unfortunately no wheelchair access to the building, which has several steps at the entrance. The apartment is located on the first floor of the building and there is no lift. However, moving around the apartment is easy and there is a walk-in shower.
Q: Do I need to bring towels and bedding?
A:
No - we provide these for you to save you space in your suitcase. Our pillows and duvet covers are foam-filled and are kind to allergy sufferers. We also provide bathroom and kitchen essentials such as toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets, kitchen cloths, bin liners etc.
Q: What activities are available in the area?
A:
According to the season, we have skiing/snowboarding, rambling/hiking/snowshoeing, alpinism/mountaineering, paragliding, horse-riding, mountain-biking, rafting, fishing, golf, tennis, swimming, climbing (indoor/outdoor), sightseeing .... See the
links
page for websites which can give you more details.
Q: Is it essential to have your own car?
A:
Yes. It is possible to get here on public transport but this is really not recommended due to the length of time it would take and the cost. To make the most of your time here you should bring your own car or hire one from the airport. See the
links
page for car hire websites.
In the winter season you should ensure the car has winter tyres fitted or that snow chains are supplied as these are obligatory in most ski resorts.
Q: What do you do with my contact details and personal information?
A:
We absolutely respect your privacy, so will not share your personal information with anyone and will only use it to deal with your booking. You will not get any unsolicited mail from us, and if at any time you want us to remove you from our mailing list then just tell us
.
